Sandbanks Parking Guide

Located right next to the golden sands at the tip of the peninsula (BH13 8QJ), this is the largest and most popular parking area with over 500 spaces.

It offers immediate access to the beach, public toilets, and the main lifeguard station.

It also includes dedicated disabled parking bays and motorcycle spots. Note: During peak summer weekends, this car park will typically reach full capacity by 9:00 AM.

Situated at the base of the peninsula where Sandbanks meets Canford Cliffs (BH13 7PN), the Shore Road car park holds roughly 70 vehicles.

It is a fantastic alternative to the main car park and provides instant access to the promenade.

From here, you can enjoy a flat, highly scenic 15-minute stroll right along the beachfront down to the main Sandbanks hub.

There is pay-and-display street parking available along Banks Road and selected side streets. However, spaces are highly sought after. BCP Council traffic wardens patrol the peninsula aggressively year-round.

Always check the roadside signage carefully, ensure you are not blocking private residential driveways, and never park on double yellow lines to avoid an instant penalty charge.

To beat the notorious summer parking rush, aim to arrive before 8:30 AM, or plan a late afternoon trip (after 4:00 PM) when the early beachgoers start heading home.

We highly recommend downloading the PayByPhone or RingGo apps before you arrive so you can pay for your parking digitally.

Alternatively, park in Poole or Bournemouth and ride the open-top Purbeck Breezer bus straight down the peninsula! A great place to start is JustPark with lots of local parking spaces to rent.

Because Sandbanks is a narrow peninsula, parking space is at an absolute premium. Whether you are aiming for the main beachfront or the calmer harbour side, here is everything you need to know about leaving your car on Britain’s Palm Beach.

This is the holy grail of Sandbanks parking. Located right at the end of the peninsula, it offers over 500 spaces just steps from the Blue Flag sand and the beach office. It features dedicated disabled bays and motorcycle parking.

Insider Tip: On hot summer weekends and bank holidays, this car park will completely fill up by 9:00 AM. If you want a spot here, you need to be an early bird!

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there disabled parking spaces available?

Yes. Both the main Sandbanks Car Park and Shore Road Car Park feature dedicated disabled parking bays for Blue Badge holders. Depending on current BCP Council regulations, Blue Badge holders often receive extended or free parking, but you must display your badge clearly and check the local tariff boards for exact rules.

Can I park my motorhome or campervan at Sandbanks?

Yes, motorhomes and campervans are permitted to park in the main Sandbanks Surface Car Park, provided they fit within the designated oversized bays and pay the appropriate tariff. However, overnight camping and sleeping in your vehicle are strictly prohibited across the entire peninsula.

How much does it cost to park at Sandbanks?

Parking tariffs vary significantly depending on the season. During the peak summer months (March to October), you can expect to pay premium coastal rates for a full day. Winter rates are heavily reduced. The easiest way to check live prices and pay is by downloading the BCP Council's officially supported parking app, PayByPhone.

Is there any free parking near Sandbanks?

Free parking is extremely limited. The vast majority of the peninsula and surrounding roads like Banks Road have strict, paid parking restrictions or resident-only permits during the summer. Some roads offer free parking during the winter months, but always double-check the local street signage before leaving your vehicle.

Where is the best place to park for Sandbanks Beach?

The most convenient option is the main Sandbanks Surface Car Park (BH13 8QJ), which sits right on the peninsula with direct beach access. However, it fills up very quickly during summer mornings. The nearby Shore Road Car Park (BH13 7PN) is an excellent alternative, just a short walk along the promenade.
