The Sandbanks Surface Car Park (BH13 8QJ)

Because Sandbanks is a narrow peninsula, parking space is at an absolute premium. Knowing exactly where to go before you arrive can save you hours of frustration, especially during the peak summer months. Whether you are aiming for the main beachfront or the calmer harbour side, here is everything you need to know about leaving your car on Britain’s Palm Beach.

This is the holy grail of Sandbanks parking. Located right at the end of the peninsula, it offers over 500 spaces just steps from the Blue Flag sand and the beach office. It features dedicated disabled bays and motorcycle parking.

Insider Tip: On hot summer weekends and bank holidays, this car park will completely fill up by 9:00 AM. If you want a spot here, you need to be an early bird!

Shore Road Car Park (BH13 7PN)

Located at the very base of the peninsula, where Sandbanks meets Canford Cliffs, the Shore Road car park is a fantastic alternative. It holds around 70 cars and provides direct access to the beach promenade. From here, you can enjoy a beautiful, flat, and scenic 15-minute walk along the seafront right down to the tip of Sandbanks.

Street Parking, Apps & Alternatives

If the main car parks are full, there is pay-and-display street parking available along Banks Road (the main road running down the peninsula) and some of the side streets. However, pay very close attention to the signage. Traffic wardens patrol Sandbanks aggressively year-round, and parking on double yellow lines or blocking private residential driveways will result in an immediate penalty charge.

To make life easier, BCP Council uses parking apps across all Sandbanks locations. Downloading the PayByPhone or RingGo app before your trip allows you to pay for your parking digitally, meaning you don’t need to hunt for loose change or rush back from the beach to top up a physical ticket.

If you want to avoid the parking stress entirely during the summer peak, we highly recommend utilizing public transport. The open-top Purbeck Breezer bus runs directly from Bournemouth and Poole train stations right down the center of the peninsula. Alternatively, park further back in Poole and hire a Beryl Bike or e-scooter to cruise past the traffic queues in style!
