Easily accessible from major UK cities, though careful planning is highly recommended during the peak summer months!

Because Sandbanks is a peninsula with only one main road in and out (Banks Road), traffic can build up quickly on sunny weekends.

• By Car: Accessible via the A338 into Bournemouth, or the A350 into Poole.

• By Train: The nearest major stations are Poole and Bournemouth, both offering direct, fast services from London Waterloo (approx. 2 hours). From the stations, it is a short taxi or open-top bus ride to the beach.

• By Sea: The Sandbanks Chain Ferry connects the tip of the peninsula to Studland, providing a vital (and highly scenic) shortcut from the Isle of Purbeck.

If you want vibrant beach days, outdoor dining, and high-energy events like the Sandpolo Championships, May through September is the time to visit. The water is warm enough for swimming, and the peninsula is buzzing with life.

However, the local secret is the “off-season” (October through April). During these months, the summer crowds vanish, parking is incredibly easy, and the winter dog-walking restrictions are lifted. It is the perfect time for a peaceful, bracing coastal walk followed by a Sunday roast in a local pub by a roaring fire.

Arrive early or use public transport to secure your spot on the sand.

The peninsula features one main, large surface car park located right next to the beach (Sandbanks Car Park), alongside limited pay-and-display street parking along Banks Road. During the height of summer, these spaces routinely fill up by 9:30 AM.

To avoid the stress of traffic, we highly recommend utilizing the local Park & Ride services, or jumping on the famous Breezer open-top buses which drop you right on the beachfront without the hassle of parking.

Sandbanks Beach is famously family-friendly. The sand gently slopes into the English Channel, meaning there are no sudden, steep drop-offs in the water. During the main summer season (May to September), the beach is heavily patrolled by fully trained RNLI Lifeguards.

The beach also features a dedicated, designated swimming zone safely separated from the boats, jet skis, and kite surfers operating out in the harbour.
